SUSD Accepting Open Enrollment Forms for 2015-16 School Year

Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) will accept online Open Enrollment Forms beginning November 3rd. Since November 1st falls on a weekend or holiday, the deadline becomes the next working day after November 1st. Parents who would like to Open Enroll their child(ren) into an SUSD school can begin the process by filling out the online request form at http://openenrollment.susd.org on Monday, November 3. Service Learning Accepting Donations, Will Deliver Thanksgiving Meals to SUSD Families in Need

Students in the Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) Service Learning program will be working to collect and fundraise to help feed families in our school district who are in need this holiday season. The Service Learning program is hoping to provide 185 families with a meal, which will be delivered or picked up the week of Thanksgiving. We are asking that you provide a meal for a family that includes the following items:
  • A frozen turkey (12-15 pounds)
  • 1 disposable turkey roasting pan
  • 2 large boxes of stuffing
  • 2 cans of cranberries
  • 2 large boxes of instant mashed potatoes
  • 2 cans of green beans
  • 2 cans of corn
  • 2 packets or 2 jars of gravy
  • 1 dessert - non-frozen and non-refrigerated
  • Package of dinner rolls - non-refrigerated
If you and your family would like to help, please bring your meal donation in a box to the front office of the following schools on Monday, November 24: Arcadia High School, Chaparral High School, Saguaro High School or Supai Middle School from 7:15-8:45 a.m.

Arizona State Board of Education Adopts New Statewide Achievement Test
On November 3rd, the Arizona State Board of Education adopted a new statewide achievement test, Arizona's Measurement of Educational Readiness to Inform Teaching (AzMERIT) for Arizona students. The AzMERIT test will replace the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) Reading, Writing and Mathematics tests beginning in spring of 2015. Students in 3rd grade through high school will take the AzMERIT English Language Arts and Mathematics tests. Students in 4th grade, 8th grade and high school will take the AIMS Science test. Four SUSD Students Win the Mayor's Constitution Day Contest

To commemorate Constitution Day, The Honorable W. J. “Jim” Lane hosted a Mayor’s Constitution Day Contest. The City of Scottsdale received 132 entries for the contest. The contest was divided into three categories. Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) had four grand prize winners and several finalists. The grand prize winners are: Gabe Ozaki, a student at Desert Canyon Middle School, 6th-8th grade essay winner, Camryn Sliger, a student at Desert Canyon Middle School, 6th-8th grade art winner, Steven Adelberg, a student at Desert Mountain High School, high school essay winner, and Julia Mionis, a student at Chaparral High School, high school art winner.
 
The following SUSD students were finalists:
  • Pueblo: Donovan Davis (essay)
  • Mohave: Andrea Mitrovic (art), Benjamin Yee (art), Daniel Hutton (essay) and Julia Greteman (essay)
  • Chaparral – all art:  Brooke Martin, Maia Nagle, Grace Lieberman and Spencer Scher
  • Desert Canyon Middle: Tyler Crum (art) Elise Short (art), Brenden Weinberg (art), Ellie Fern (essay) and Samantha Hirsch (essay)
  • Coronado: Natalee Esposito (essay)
  • Desert Mountain: Christine Curran (essay)
