HISTORY OF PUEBLO

Did You Know?

The land where the
Lincoln Garden
Apartments now
stand used to
be farmland.

The farm had
several resident
goats that would
be blamed for
many "missing"
homework
assignments
throughout
the years!!

Built in 1971, Pueblo Elementary was the 19th elementary school in Scottsdale and opened as a K-8 school with over 1,000 students. It was also the northernmost elementary school in Scottsdale at the time.

There was much excitement and controversy when the school opened because Pueblo was modeling the "flexible space philosophy" of design and construction and would incorporate "team teaching" and the extensive use of teachers' aides or paraprofessionals. These concepts would be largely abandoned in the following years.

After reaching an enrollment high of 1,232 students in 1980, Pueblo became a K-6 grade elementary school, with the 7th & 8th graders moving to Mohave Middle School.

Attendance since 1980 has averaged approximately 750 students.
